OrSlow 6250 WWII 40s Sumi Coated Linen Coverall – Black

OrSlow 6250 WWII 40s Sumi Coated Linen Coverall – Black

The OrSlow WWII 40’s Sumi Coated Linen Coverall takes a familiar piece of American workwear and reinterprets it through distinctly Japanese craftsmanship. Inspired by simplified 1940s wartime coveralls, the jacket keeps the original’s functional character intact with a relaxed boxy silhouette, clean front patch pockets, and classic metal donut buttons. The result feels understated, practical, and quietly refined rather than overly vintage.

What truly defines this piece is the fabric. The base is 100% linen, chosen for its dry texture, breathability, and natural irregularity. It is then coated with sumi, the traditional Japanese ink historically used for calligraphy and ink painting. Unlike conventional dyeing, the sumi coating sits on the surface of the fabric, creating a deep matte black tone with variation and a slightly waxed hand feel. Over time, the coating gradually wears away through movement, washing, and creasing, revealing more of the linen beneath and producing a unique patina shaped entirely by wear.

This coverall reflects OrSlow’s ability to combine historical references, natural materials, and slow ageing characteristics into a garment that continues to evolve for years.
